Wedding Caricature Gig

Well, I know it feels like a century since I posted artwork.. so out of the blue.. I figured I'd try to catch up on some things I've done.

This was just a gig I did for a wedding earlier in the year. Though I wasn't able to take enough photos of the work I did mainly because I was the only artist.. and there was a heck of a line to get done. lol.

This couple (below) didn't get on my list to get a caricature in time.. so they emailed me & they were able to get one via-email.

Wellington Village - Caricature Gig

Here's a few pics I thought I'd share from a gig I drew at 2 days ago. Sadly, I was only able to take a few pictures of my work due to the HIGH demand of people that were there. The Line I had of people wanting to get drawn was so giant. But at least I was able to take a few.
(Above Pic): This was the sign for the event.
(Above Pic): Here's a Dirt-Biker kid
(Above Pic): And a 'Surfin Kid'
(Above Pic): Here were two 'Basketball Pros' on the same. I thought the kid on the
right was so funny. I love how his eyes dissappeared when he smiled.

(Above Pic): Yaay, that's me - Sketch Artist in blue. Of course the place paid me..
but it was free for the people walking around. :)

Some Quick Caricatures - All Freehand

Lately all of my work I've been doing.. behind the scenes for the series of books I've been working on.. has mostly been all with the Wacom Tablet. But considering I've been having technical difficulties.. (until I get a new one) I've been loosening up my hand again drawing lots of caricatures. I nearly forgot how wonderful it was to do! It feels GREAT to pick up the marker again & draw on some real live paper! I love it! It's even nicer to draw a different image every 7-10 minutes rather then drawing & editing the exact same book page for much longer then what any person would want to be working on them for. :) So it's been quite a relaxing week of caricaturing. I'm loving it.. and missing it.

This guy really reminded me of "Quentin Tarantino" doesn't he? So crazy! He HAS to be related or something!

Coloring was so fun too. I enjoyed coloring these guys using Photoshop. Yes, my Wacom Tablet is not working.. so it was a bit frustrating to color these at the beginning. But hey! I got through it okay, thank the Lord! ;D

Back to some Caricaturing

My apologies for taking so long to post. I've had a LOT of personal stuff going on over here. All has been good.. but just plain ole' busy.

Here are some of my latest caricatures. I haven't posted any in a while.. cause I was getting so caught up in the 'Digital Illustrations' for Commissions. I was almost starting to forget how to draw the freehand caricatures! :P *zoinks scoob!*

Sorry.. some of these I don't have reference photos of the people.. because.. I'm too busy & also too lazy to load them all up.. lol. So.. only the last ones have reference photos of who I drew.
The next two below were colored digitally.. and the font was done digitally obviously on the 1st one. This one below was cool. They took my drawing & made shirts out of them for their Bachelor & Bachelorette ('Hens Night' in Australia) parties. Yeah... this one below.. was a bit of a strain on my brain. I hate drawing bikes. :P But, I figured out how to make it look somewhat decent. This next one below was of some mentally disabled kids. I tend to find it a challenge to draw them both cute without taking off any likeness. But this was the best I could do. The kid on the very left.. probably has the most deformed facial expression. I did my best to not make him completely different from the rest of the kids.Yes! I could have gotten more creative with these next two.. by actually having them playing in the drawings.. but, with my limited time.. I just didn't. lol. :P

Lar's Training PT 1.

This is Lar (the one who is speaking in the vidoe below).. This is just an old digital painting I did of him that I did a long time ago on my website. Lar was my very 1st digital subject! I'm posting it here so you know who's in the video. :D
Watch as Lar demonstrates how to draw retail-style caricatures for beginning artists. There are more of these videos online. :) Enjoy!

An Oldie

Because I've been so busy & working so much.. (filling up my cpu. with the illustrations for books) I had to clean out my cpu. & make room for all my work.

While I was doing so, I came across this oldie. I'm guessing the reason I never posted it was because it's not so good. LOL. The Hockey Stick looks broken near the boy's hands. Also the forehead should be just a bit more exposed. The eyes look very genaric as well. The hair could be darker as well... or maybe the parent wanted it to be lighter. Sometimes those parents are very picky with the way they want you to draw their children. lol. Other then all those things.. it looks alright. OH! and maybe I wasn't done.. cause his arms have no flesh color to it.

Gig on the weekend

Well, I'm not gonna post all the caricatures I did mainly.. cause I feel I didn't do a great job. I'm a little rusty. okay.. I'm a lot rusty! But at least I made an attempt right? lol. I mainly only drew faces only. I did draw about 3 face & bodies.. but failed to take photos of them. *sorry* It was a busy night!

I really enjoyed this couple. They had great personalities and were fun to talk to. They also caused for a great response photo shot! lol. :)

"Little Annabel". There weren't very many children at all sadly. I love drawing children. Cause #1 they're easy to draw. lol. and #2 they are so adorable!

Sorry for the bad shots of these. With this one.. I wasn't too dissapointed with how I drew it. It came out alright I guess.

This one below was fun to draw. I wasn't lazy coloring in the hair this time. It makes an enormous difference with likeness if you remember to color in the hair dark if your subject has dark hair. Though sometimes it can slow you down if there's a line and use up your entire marker too.

See, with this one.. I didn't color in her hair nor the guy's.. therefore.. lacks a bit of likeness in my opinion.. but they liked it.. and that's what matters most.

A gig from a while back.

Someone just gave me this pic today from a while back.

A Hawaiian Christmas Gig.

I took these with the camera phone. (sorry for the bad quality) There were some really great ones that aren't posted here. I'm bummed that I didn't take enough photos. The others were actually dressed up in a Hawaiian type theme. I'm hoping I run into someone later, that maybe took some photos. I got a few standing ovations @ the beginning... I was like... what? lol.

This kid below was so funny.. he had so many expressions!

The last girl, I didn't take a photo of her.. well, cause I hesitate to put up really young kids up on the internet.. with all the crazies out there.. if you know what I mean. I was happy with the likeness on this one though.

A 40th b-day gig.

Here's a gig I did a while back ago.. for a 40th birthday of someone's. The main thing that I remember was the EXTREEEEEME-ly LOUD karaoke music that was being blasted next to my ear drum. I thought I'd never hear again! Now, I thought David had taken a lot more photos then the 3 you see here.. but apparantly.. those were other people taking photographs.. lol.
